E-learning new perspectives: The MOOC phenomenon
(6 days seminar)

In English

E-learning has been around for long. But MOOCs seem to bring a new air in the field. MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) have been characterized as disruptive technology. What is it actually? How such a course differs from traditional e-learning courses? Does it really bring something new, something big maybe, that is going to change the way we teach and the way we learn? This course seeks to bring into focus these questions as well as others that come to the surface as ICT technologies continue to penetrate the traditional education. Our approach to achieve the above goals will be both theoretical and practical with respective sessions included in every day of the seminar. There will be presentations and discussions on the nature of this new way of teaching and learning. Discussions will follow on its implications on the traditional education system and the society on a local and a global level. In the practical part the participating teachers will design and implement an actual MOOC using software tools that will be taught in the course. The course will be set up on Moodle or Blackboard coursesites. At a time when the fast technological change brings more and more changes in the educational sector, we, as teachers and directors, have to take more influential decisions that should be based on the right knowledge and practical abilities. This is why we believe this course is a must for every European educator!
